Residential Conveyancing Secretary - Romsey
Romsey, Hampshire | Full time | Permanent | Office based
Conveyancing support is where a transaction either moves or stalls. Firms know it, which is why a good conveyancing secretary rarely stays on the market long.
RecQuest is recruiting on behalf of an established Hampshire firm for a Conveyancing Secretary to join its busy residential property department in Romsey. This is a settled team with a steady flow of work, not a firm firefighting a backlog.
The Role
Providing secretarial and administrative support across residential conveyancing matters
Handling telephone enquiries from clients, estate agents and third parties
Audio and copy typing of correspondence and legal documents
Maintaining files and case management records
Supporting fee earners through to exchange and completion
About You
Experience in residential conveyancing (essential)
A confident telephone manner, particularly with agents and clients under time pressure
Able to audio and copy type accurately
Proficient with Outlook and Word, and ideally Excel
Experience with LexisNexis Smart Forms (desirable, not essential)
Why Consider It
Romsey conveyancing roles do not come up often
An established department rather than a new function finding its feet
For someone local, it removes a commute into Southampton without dropping down in quality of work
If you are weighing up a move, our guide on how to move law firms without missteps covers what to think about first.
All conversations are strictly confidential. To discuss this role, or the conveyancing support market across Hampshire, contact Ben Holtom at RecQuest.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a conveyancing secretary do?
A conveyancing secretary supports fee earners through the residential property transaction, from opening the file to completion. The work covers audio and copy typing of correspondence and legal documents, fielding calls from clients, estate agents and lenders, maintaining case management records, and keeping matters moving to deadline. In smaller departments the role often extends into ordering searches and post-completion tasks.
What salary can a conveyancing secretary expect in Hampshire?
Conveyancing secretary salaries across Hampshire typically run from around £24,000 to £30,000 depending on experience, with Romsey, Winchester and Southampton generally paying at the upper end of that range.
Do I need formal qualifications?
No. Practical conveyancing experience matters far more than qualifications for this role. A legal secretarial or administrative qualification is welcomed but is not a requirement.
Is LexisNexis Smart Forms experience essential?
No. It is a genuine advantage and will shorten your settling-in period, but firms will train the right person on their case management system.
What is the working pattern?
This is a full time, office based role. Conveyancing support depends on being present and reachable while transactions are live, so hybrid working is not available.
