Litigation Lawyer: Gosport

Gosport | Full time, office based | £55,000 to £62,000 depending on experience

RecQuest is recruiting on behalf of a boutique South Coast law firm that is looking to appoint a Litigation Lawyer to join its Gosport office.

This is a varied civil litigation role with a particularly interesting angle: regular exposure to contested wills and probate work. For a firm of this size, that combination is unusual. Many litigation roles either become very general or push you into a narrow specialism. This opportunity offers a genuine mix of civil disputes, client contact, court work and contentious probate exposure.

You will work closely with the Head of Crime and Civil Litigation, while also having touch points with the firm’s private client department on contested probate matters. It would suit a Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive who enjoys variety, is comfortable managing their own caseload, and wants to be a visible lawyer within a local client base.

The firm has a strong South Coast presence, a close knit senior team, and a client focussed approach. This is a good opportunity for someone who wants responsibility, not just supervision from the sidelines.

The role

You will handle a mixed civil litigation caseload, with matters likely to include:

• General civil litigation

• Small claims disputes

• Landlord and tenant disputes

• Contractual disagreements

• Contested wills and probate matters

• Client meetings and case strategy discussions

• Court preparation and attendance

• Correspondence with clients, opponents, courts and third parties

• Running your own files with appropriate support

The contentious probate element gives this role real depth. You do not necessarily need to be a specialist in contested wills and probate already, but you should either have some working knowledge of this area or a clear interest in developing it properly.

About you

The firm is looking for a Litigation Lawyer with at least 3 years’ PQE, or equivalent experience.

You will need to be:

• A qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive

• Experienced in civil litigation

• Confident managing your own caseload

• Comfortable being the main client contact on your files

• Interested in contested wills, inheritance disputes or contentious probate

• Organised, commercially aware and clear in your advice

• Happy attending court and client meetings where required

• Based within sensible commuting distance of Gosport

• Willing to work full time from the office

The honest part

This is a fully office based role in Gosport. It is not hybrid or remote. Court attendance and in person client meetings are part of the role.

The appeal here is the mix. You will not be doing one narrow category of dispute all day, nor will you be kept away from client responsibility. You will have the chance to use your civil litigation experience while building proper exposure to contested probate work, in a firm where that work genuinely exists.
