Family Law Solicitor: Gosport

Gosport | Full time, office based | £40,000 to £60,000 depending on experience

RecQuest is recruiting on behalf of a boutique South Coast law firm that is looking to appoint a qualified Family Law Solicitor to join its Gosport office.

This is a strong opportunity for a family lawyer who wants more than a steady caseload and someone else’s department structure. The firm is actively developing its family law offering, so this role gives the right person the chance to join at an early stage, take meaningful ownership, and help shape how the department grows.

You will work closely with an experienced senior lawyer, with support from the wider litigation team. The work will focus on privately funded family law matters including divorce and separation, financial remedy work, and child arrangements, with clear scope for your responsibility and profile to grow as the department develops.

This would suit a qualified Family Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive who already has solid family law experience and is looking for a role with client contact, autonomy, and long term development potential.

The role

You will advise across a range of privately funded family law matters. Depending on your experience, your caseload and duties may include:

• Managing divorce and separation matters

• Advising on financial remedy work

• Handling child arrangement matters

• Preparing correspondence, court documents and client advice

• Liaising with clients, courts, counsel and third parties

• Managing key deadlines, hearings and case progression

• Running your own files with appropriate senior support

• Contributing to the growth and structure of the family law department

This is not a role where you will simply slot into a large, established team and inherit narrow process work. You will be joining at a point where the department is growing, which creates real opportunity for someone who is proactive, organised and genuinely interested in building something with the firm.

About you

The firm is looking for a qualified family lawyer with meaningful experience in privately funded family law. You may be a Solicitor, Chartered Legal Executive or suitably experienced qualified fee earner.

You will need to be:

• Qualified as a Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive, or able to demonstrate equivalent family law fee earning experience

• Experienced in family law, ideally with exposure to divorce, finances and children matters

• Confident managing client relationships sensitively and professionally

• Able to run files with appropriate supervision rather than requiring close day to day handholding

• Organised, accurate and able to manage competing priorities

• Comfortable taking initiative in a developing department

• Keen to build your profile and take on more responsibility over time

• Based within sensible commuting distance of Gosport

• Happy to work full time from the office

The honest part

This is a fully office based role in Gosport. It is not hybrid or remote. For some lawyers, that will not be the right fit. For someone who wants close client contact, visibility in a local firm and the chance to be part of a growing department, it may be exactly the appeal.

The department is being built, which means there is genuine room to grow, but also an expectation that you will take initiative and contribute to the development of the family law offering. You will not simply be maintaining an existing rhythm; you will be helping to create one.
